Getting to this forest area really is a breeze! The Neidong National Forest Recreation Area is located in the Wulai District of New Taipei City, and it takes about an hour from Taipei Main Station to get there. In the forest area you’ll be welcomed by lush natural forest and magnificent waterfalls. While taking a stroll you’ll enjoy air rich with phytoncides and negative ions, refreshing and revitalizing you with every step, while seeing up close tree ferns that already existed in the Jurassic period.

The Atayal indigenous people live in Wulai. Wulai is also the northernmost Austronesian settlement in the world. Here you’ll enjoy indigenous cuisine and also learn to set traps, do archery like a pro, and experience half a day of traditional Atayal hunter life together with real Atayal hunters!

▲ Neidong National Forest Recreation Area
The Neidong National Forest Recreation Area is the most accessible National Forest Recreation Area in the Greater Taipei area. With an altitude between 230 m and 800 m, it is home to a low-altitude forest environment. The abundant water resources of the Nanshi River and Neidong River provide a good habitat and growth environment for animals as well as plants. This is one of the most popular birdwatching spots in northern Taiwan. Here you can find a rich variety of ferns and insects; on the short waterfall trail 65 species of ferns are waiting to be discovered. It is truly a living nature classroom open to the public.

The Neidong Waterfall has been selected as the most beautiful waterfall in Taiwan, abundantly showcasing the power of the water. Meander along the Waterfall Viewing Trail to its end and you will arrive at the upper and lower waterfalls each with its own specific scenery. Breathe in the fragrance of the air filled with negative ions. All of this together creates an unforgettably diverse experience for travelers.

▲ Gesuw Camp Site
The Gesuw Camp Site, hidden in the depths of the forest, is named after the owner of the camp. In the Atayal language, "Gesuw" means the precious wood that lives in the mountains. The camp owner hopes to preserve the tribe’s cultural heritage and at the same time create employment opportunities through cooperation with local tribal women and elders. We’ll take a trip to this very special camp and learn about the spirit of the Atayal hunters, who respect and live in harmony with nature, from the treasured relics of clothing, adornments, utensils, and hunting skills that have been successfully preserved here.
