During the Edo period, the Sanyo Expressway (Saigoku Highway) was under the direct control of the shogunate.
Yakage-juku prospered as the 18th post town along the highway, along with the feudal lords' attendance system.
And the current Yakage-cho is one of the leading towns in Japan where the characteristics of the townscape of that time are still preserved in a healthy appearance.
In keeping with this historical property and as a Yakage-cho cultural industry, we were able to regenerate the old houses as the Yakageya Main Building and the Yakageya Onsen Annex.
